Dear Evan Hansen really is genius
I’ve been experimenting with different orders to listen to the songs to get a different view of the story
There’s almost no way this wasn’t done on purpose, this is genius.
If you listened to So Big/So Small and then Good For You, it makes Heidi extremely sympathetic, and the song feels so satisfying, with just the touch of heartbreak — for Heidi. It even makes you annoyed at Evan in the song.
If you listen to Words Fail and then Good For You, Heidi seems heartless, you despise her, you become angry at everyone singing at Evan and Evan is the sympathetic one, it makes you mad knowing how Evan feels and the fact he literally can’t express that, it makes the others seem cruel.
Dear Evan Hansen is just so goddamn human. No one is evil, no one is good, and yet it’s all so vastly different, everyone’s so different and the story changes entirely depending on who’s viewpoint you’re looking at it from.
