They, like all other pop songs, are the most harmonically uninteresting things to ever be considered music. The melodies are fine, but the bass needs to be more than four notes over and over for it to be interesting. There needs to be substance under the melody. A meal cannot just be the main dish, sides are just as important, the same applies in music, no matter what melody you write, if you put it under a nothing burger of harmony, it's going to be boring.
