And by "tax-exempt" I mean: I have committed tax fraud. Let's go ahead and do this before the feds find me!
Sorry if this took a while, I planned on getting this out yesterday, but I admittedly got distracted. Anyways, let's dive right into "For the Future".
HOOTYCOPTER!
Oh dear, the Collector's even Collector-ified the logo!
The Titan tries to get Luz's attention, but he's really let himself go after spending centuries in the in-between realm. Can't run like he used to.
I pointed this out earlier when going over that episode, but the Gravesfield portal's Boiling Isles exit is in the same place where Eda found the portal door in "Keeping up A-fear-ances".
Willow says she can't wait to punch Belos through the face... clarifying that yes, she did mean THROUGH the face.
Willow is entirely capable of turning you into food for her plants if you get on her or her friends' bad side... I respect that.
"I love the fact that you've been living on a giant... CARCASS!"
I can smell Belos' odor just by looking at this image... smells like a mixture of raw sewage, skunks, mold, decay, and Joe Biden.
Caleb gives his brother the trademark thousand-yard stare of disapproval. Luz later gives him that same stare as she watches him die. Seems that's how everyone looks at Belos... and why not?
Looks like Peepaw forgot to take his meds and now he's hallucinating again.
"Oh, bugger me, I've lost me 'and! Bloody inconvenience!"
I love how someone just wrote "BAD WORD" on the Owl House.
And on the tower behind it, you can also see the words "KISS MY GRASS".
Hunter gets spooked while trying to guard the Owl House and reflexively tries to summon Flapjack.
Poor kid... everyone's going through a lot in this episode, but Hunter especially has to be going through a lot, having just recently lost who could arguably be called his best and closest friend.
Aww, that's real sweet, I wonder when they found the time to take a family portrait. Sometime in Season 1 obviously, King still has a chipped horn and Eda still has two yellow eyes, meaning she and Lilith haven't yet split the curse.
And of course, the family portrait isn't complete without the omnipresent Hooty in the background. Praise be unto Hooty!
Camila's first time riding on a staff. She has the same reaction Luz had back in the very first episode.
Terra making for a rather unconvincing Eda. Some details that I like: her "wig" is just a hedgehog biting down on her head, and, well... let's just say she hasn't been keeping in shape like Eda has.
Now, let's be real here... puppets are creepy. Just ask my friend here:
So... the Collector turning all the Boiling Isles' citizenry into puppets is... definitely unnerving. Imagine if you saw your family and friends turned into horrifying life-sized puppets. Better keep the music box wound.
Camila's reaction upon first seeing King: "Ay, que lindo!"
Exact same reaction as Luz back in the very first episode. Like mother, like daughter.
While Principal Bump is in the throes of death, Bo and Skara feel this is a good time to start beatboxing.
Bump's a puppet now. He's a menace to children no longer.
"And somewhere along the way, I went from Mattholomule... to MANtholomule!"
"LET THE BLOOD OF YOUR ENEMIES GIVE YOU STRENGTH!"
Also... Braxas is dressed like his father... aww!
I'd imagine that in this scenario, Bump would be saying something like:
"Look here, children! I've got the DRIP! That's what you kids are saying these days, right? I am definitely BALLIN' right now! That's also young people talk, yes?"
Also, the memorial calls him "Princy B", which he once told Eda to NEVER call him.
Edric lets out a prolonged, pained scream of pure agony as he attempts to hug his sister.
Emira then explains how he fell into an empty well.
"Not empty! There were ROCKS at the bottom!"
I love how he says this with a smile. He's been through so much pain that nothing phases him anymore!
"Wait... HAS YOUR NAME BEEN MATT THOLOMULE THIS WHOLE TIME?"
"Oh, shut up!"
Now all the old grimwalkers join Caleb in giving Belos his well-deserved thousand-yard stare of disapproval.
Looks like Peepaw's hallucinating again.
I think it's adorable how the Collector calls Odalia "Mama 'Dalia". The kid has no idea just how nasty she is.
And you can tell Odalia is hating her life right now... good, she deserves it.
THE CHILD DEMANDS HIS PIZZA BAGELS!
By the way, have any of you ever had pizza bagels? They're really good, in fact, I'm getting hungry for pizza bagels right now. I only have enough for myself, of course, but maybe I should just leave and warm some up and I can have them for lunch-
Okay, okay, fine... back to the retrospective...
The Collector makes King read him a bedtime story... from a book whose pages are stone tablets... ouch.
Well... that paragraph that got crossed out is something, alright. Poor Collector, the kid just wants some friends.
First time I ever saw this episode, I thought that "Miki" looked strangely familiar... then when it was revealed that she was really Kikimora, I gave myself a facepalm for not noticing it sooner.
"TELL MY STORY!" shouts Edric as the kindergarteners drag him away.
R.I.P. Edric, murdered by kindergarteners. Lest we forget.
It's real sweet how sometimes Eda will sneak out just to check up on her old partner.
It's real sweet how much these two care for each other.
"Hooty, you keep finding new and impressive ways to creep me out."
Back in "Understanding Willow", Willow told Luz to not pull any schemes, plots, or ruses, but Luz said that she didn't hear anything about shenanigans. This time, as Willow is about to grab some memories from Luz's mind, she reminds her:
"No schemes, no plots, no ruses... and definitely no shenanigans!"
Oh, cool... there's flesh dripping off that hand. Or maybe it's red dirt, I don't know.
Either way... that's a very disturbing sight, thank you once again, The Owl House!
"I wish someone would see my potential."
"Oh yes, I think you'll prove to be QUITE useful!"
"Me?"
"NO..."
"YOU!"
My favorite part of that scene is Belos straight-up telling Odalia "NO." when she asks if he thinks she can be useful. Not even HE likes her!
Luz's reaction upon finding out "Miki" is Kikimora is:
"Oh no, not YOU!"
She's not even scared, just frustrated. Honestly, that's how we all feel.
Camila throwing her bat at Kikimora was a fun moment. Little brat deserved it.
Honestly... this is just sad.
But on the other hand, this episode actually redeems Boscha a bit. It's shown that she misses her friends who protected her from the Collector's spies. And later, when she turns on Kikimora, she says that all she really wants is to play grudgby with her friends. She definitely has some mental health issues of her own that she needs worked out, and I hope she eventually does. She attends Luz's party in the epilogue, and seems happy to be there, which suggests that she's made some strides in improving herself.
I love the way her expression changes when she realizes that "Amity" was really Matt. To be fair, I'd imagine that's how most people look at Matt.
Camila tells Luz that everyone makes mistakes, and lists off some of her own:
Booking her wisdom tooth surgery for the day before her wedding.
Getting road rage and cursing out the guy who turns out to be the principal of Luz's new school.
Selling energy drinks for a pyramid scheme for THREE YEARS.
Who knows? She might have a history of crime rivaling that of Stanley Pines! I respect that.
I honestly love this scene. Camila admits that she's a nerd too, and that although she didn't want Luz to have a hard time growing up like she did, she says the biggest mistake she ever made was trying to make Luz something she wasn't.
Really tugs at the heartstrings, man.
I'll say it again: Camila's the best mother.
Say, how do you all like your eggs? Personally, I prefer mine scrambled. But I'll eat them any way.
Luz realizes that all she ever really wanted was just to be understood.
Honestly... same. Raise your hand if you feel the same way. I wish I knew people in real life who would understand if I just wanted to info-dump about Thomas the Tank Engine lore.
And Luz's new palisman is...
A GLOWING PURPLE ORB OF PURE ENERGY!
Willow finally lets out all the emotions she's been holding in over the course of the episode. We all gotta do the same sometimes, ya know? Sometimes it just feels real good to cry.
Just don't cry in a springlock suit, not a good idea.
"LUZ HAS A STAFF NOW!"
"Why does that terrify me?"
Boscha reminds Matt that the girl he's crushing on is a robot. Matt doesn't care.
Don't let that kid join the Five Nights at Freddy's fandom... please, for the love of God, don't let him in!
Hello, Stringbean!
Just before Stringbean's reveal, when everyone was guessing what form Luz's palisman would take, Amity suggested an otter, because she knows her girlfriend well.
Oh, this is just too precious. Camila even considers the palismen her "babies". Again, best mom.
I'm not gonna go into whether or not Willow and Hunter have feelings for each other. I'm only here to bring you FACTS!
And one thing I can tell you for a fact is: This might just be the first time in his life that Hunter has been told he means a lot to someone. It's okay boy, just let it out.
Of course, this happy occasion is being watched by the Collector, accompanied by Belos, in Raine's puppet-body. Belos, being full of lies as always, tells the Collector that they're all plotting against him.
Time for a new game to begin...
