I made some really quick fanart for the occasion!
Hope you like it! :)
Happy Halloween, everyone! :D

You can get bonus points if you make up a story to connect the images (funnier and weirder the better)!
What do you mean Thanks to Them was 2 years ago?
That's the post, I have to acknowledge the anniversary, of course. Now back into the dark pit from which I crawled out of.
I keep thinking about how in "Thanks To Them" Luz and Hunter were more central than all of the other characters. And the ONLY EPISODE that Luz isn't in-- "Labyrinth Runners" is a Hunter-centric one, where he kind of acts as the protagonist for the episode. Despite not being in ALL of season 1, I think he might be at least the 4th most central character in the series, after Luz, Eda, and King. Which is kind of funny.
Anyway, I made this drawing of our favorite scarred siblings!
I kind of wonder if they would have a sibling rivalry for the main character role.
Saraah-Nicole Robles (Luz VA) was asked how Hunter would have reacted to Luz's death in WAD, and she said, "He would have been like, "Oh, cool! I'm the main character, now!" 😂 And then said, more seriously, "No, he would have shed a single tear and then had a mental breakdown."
(Note: Paraphrasing a little!)
P.S.
Also, traditionally, heroes are supposed to die and often be resurrected, which happened to both of them! I think it's kind of funny how Hunter went from a villain side-character to one of the most important characters in the series.
Just info dumping about them, I guess! :) Lol
Autumn is my favorite season! I'm so excited for it!
Also, a week or two ago, I wanted to try some brushes to get a watercolor effect!
And I wanted to draw Luz!
So this is what happened!
I don't know why I keep deciding to share some of my fan art, like, weeks after I make it! Lol!
Also I mad this when I was super tired, so I didn't try too hard.
Hope you like it anyway! :)

SO MUCH HAPPENED OMG!!! It was so cool, so much happened. Well obviously pretty much everyone knows how the finale went, but I'm just sharing my opinion because why not. The Collector is so cute!!! It was full of so much plot twists and unexpected things. It was a really good finale and I would definitely rewatch the 3 parts again at some point.
Oh dear, this is Part 13? That's rather unlucky... good thing I don't believe in superstition.
Anyways, let us now get started on Season 3... although if you ask me, it really isn't a proper season, just three hour-long specials. They feel more like little movies than episodes. (In fact, the minimum running time to qualify as a "feature" film is 40 minutes... so by that criteria, all three of these specials technically qualify as full-length movies.)
It would have been nice to have gotten a proper Season 3, but... you know... Michael Rodent and all...
But I still think there's plenty to enjoy from what we actually have been given, so without any further ado, let us begin with "Thanks to Them"!
We open with... STOCK FOOTAGE! You need to stretch the running time as cheaply as possible? Use previously existing stock footage and boom! I will say it's justified in this case though, seeing as this is meant to continue directly from where "King's Tide" left off.
Gus has discovered the great human innovation of bubble wrap... there's no going back now.
COMIC SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANS!
Aww, that's so sweet! Camila really is such a great mom.
Although personally, I would have liked it if they kept in the deleted scene where Camila holds up a sign saying: "HI BI, I'M MOM!"
Aww, Hunter looks so happy in his stupid bird costume, good for him!
Also, if the shooting star on Willow's shirt gives you Weirdmageddon flashbacks, you're not alone. Call the Bill Cipher Personal Injury Hotline if emotional distresses continue, so that Bill may laugh at your pain.
Bessie the snail from Amphibia makes an appearance... albeit much smaller now.
It's great to see them just having fun and being kids... well, everyone's having fun but Hunter, it seems.
And as sweet as Luz and Amity having their little moment is... THEY'RE OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET! THAT'S DANGEROUS! THERE COULD BE CARS COMING!
Or, hypothetically... on Christmas Eve, the Polar Express could just come waltzing down the street, and true love is no match for a 2-8-4 "Berkshire" steam locomotive!
Also, those houses in the background look just like the style of houses I've seen in Connecticut for myself. Very nice houses in that part of the country, but that's besides the point.
Because no door is complete without a Hooty!
As one of the poor damned individuals whose soul is under the ownership of Duo the Owl, doing my Spanish lessons every day lest he come for my soul and make me suffer his eternal wrath... I definitely enjoyed this little reference.
"I never anticipated being a mother of 6."
Honestly, it's real sweet that she considers them not guests, but rather her own children. I'll say it again, Camila's the best mom, we all love her here.
Haha, what a klutz.
The color scheme of this rebus box was confirmed to be in reference to Stanford Pines' journals from Gravity Falls.
Quite a few caricatures of the show's crew members appear in this episode as background characters. Luz's teacher, whose name is Mr. Sandoval, is based on Stephen Sandoval, who also worked on another favorite show of mine: Futurama.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJL1zlJx41g
Futurama is definitely a whole different boat from The Owl House, but as someone who likes both these shows, I find that a pretty cool fact.
Luz, in her rant about the protagonist of the book being discussed in her English class, whose story coincidentally parallels her own, says that his family should hate his guts, and that it would've been better if he never existed.
Given how Luz is definitely projecting how she feels about herself onto the character... damn. That should be an indication of the state of her mental health at this point in time. It really is sad to see the normally so happy and goofy weirdo be in such a state of self-loathing. Which is why it's all the more happy to see her overcome her own self-esteem issues and return to her usual happy self by the end of the series.
Luz just needs hugs... lots of hugs.
Going back to caricatures of crew members appearing in the episode, these two students are based on Mike Austin (left) and Bridget Underwood (right).
Mike Austin is also a Thomas fan, much like me, and knowing another Thomas fan worked on this show makes me happy.
Mike, if by some slim chance you see this, I'd be happy to talk Thomas with you anytime!
It really is good to see him so genuinely happy. You like wolves? Yes, go ahead and like wolves all you want, buddy!
I definitely feel like these stickers were meant to serve as foreshadowing for "For the Future".
The young Luz's fascination with snakes here was definitely meant to foreshadow what form her palisman would take.
Oh... the undying British man has taken the form of a rabbit now?
Close enough... welcome back Springtrap FNAF!
"This was written in the '90s about the year 2008."
Look at her face as she pokes this innocent passerby in the butt... she really is an agent of chaos.
The cartoon poke sound effect that plays when she pokes the human is the cherry on top here.
Back in S1E7 "Lost in Language", it's shown that demon realm libraries have a "Demon Decimal System", a living creature which you shouldn't feed or else it'll spit a bunch of paper at you. Which explains why Amity is trying to communicate with drawers. She's such a goofball.
If I had a nickel for every time Amity fell flat on her face in this episode, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, yadda yadda yadda.
Once again... such a goofball.
I think we should kill all giraffes (my lawyers have advised me to clarify that this is a joke, please do not kill giraffes... unless it's proven beyond reasonable doubt that they are demons).
What a sad, strange little man.
A brief look at some of the adventures we might have gotten in a full Season 3.
Two references I'd like to point out here: For one, on the left, you can see a poster with Hop Pop from Amphibia on it. Guess he finally gave up acting for good and became a doctor.
Also, on the "Shame" section on the refrigerator is the goose from Untitled Goose Game, the one from that "peace was never an option" meme.
One of Luz's drawings of what form her palisman might take is of Polly from Amphibia.
She also draws a snake... hmm...
This sad boy has never had a real family, so it's real sweet that Luz calls him "family". It's okay, Hunter me lad, let it all out.
SPOOKY NIGHT IS HERE!
Considering this episode was released in October 2022 and is very much Halloween-themed, you could consider this to be The Owl House's Halloween special. The spooky season really isn't complete without it.
This whole mock witch trial was a nice touch, especially considering I'm a history nerd. Reminds me a lot of Salem, Massachusetts, which I visited in the summer of last year, it was a fun time.
Also reminds me of the film version of The Crucible I watched, starring Daniel Day-Lewis. It's basically this scene except two hours long.
I also love the detail of the "Inquisitor Jones" actor wearing a fake bald cap, suggesting that this is a rather shoddy production... what else would you expect from a mock reenactment at a Halloween festival?
Gus definitely traumatized this guy... good for him!
Notice the one festivalgoer wearing a costume of Captain Grime from Amphibia on the left.
Yet another Jacob Hopkins L. I said it before and I'll say it again... he seriously needs to just look himself in the mirror and rethink his entire life.
"Because there's nothing scarier than KNOWLEDGE!"
I definitely agree, knowledge brings FEAR!
Anyways... hay ride! Hay rides are fun... a bit uncomfortable, but still fun.
"Sounds like big bro got a hot witch girlfriend and little bro got upset."
Masha just casually hits them with that line after unintentionally traumatizing them with that story about the Wittebanes.
And even if they meant it as a joke... they'd be surprised at just how right they are.
This part is honestly heartbreaking. I think it's sweet that Luz uses the Good Witch Azura books as a (healthy) coping mechanism to deal with the loss of her dad. We all have a piece of media like that that has helped us in tough times.
"Privacy Schmivacy."
This is a real nice shot... especially with the spooky ambience in the background, really sets the atmosphere.
I do want to know what exactly happened that resulted in this old graveyard being flooded, though. Like... how does that happen? In fact, just imagine having your body being buried in a SUBMERGED graveyard!
"I always come back."
The source of that one funny Vee image.
"Goodbye... EVELYN."
He definitely didn't do this just to spite Hunter... for him, it was personal. To him, Flapjack was a reminder of his brother's "betrayal".
Okay, seriously... how did the graveyard get flooded? And Jesus Christ, is that the Marianas Trench down there or something?
"This is for the good of your souls... you'll thank me later!"
Honestly, I find that a tad bit funny... after all he's done, he has the nerve to tell Luz: "Trust me, you're gonna thank me one day." The Titan was right, he is delusional. But we all already knew that.
Flapjack's sacrifice. It's actually quite beautiful, in a bittersweet way, seeing how Flapjack turned Hunter's life around and ultimately sacrificed himself for Hunter's sake.
A bit eerie seeing how when Flapjack dies, he turns into balls of light, when you know that the same thing will happen to Luz in the finale. Only Luz actually comes back from the dead.
Notice how before being revived by Flapjack, Hunter's eyes were kind of a purplish color. Now his eyes are brown. A lasting reminder of the sacrifice Flapjack made for him.
I love how eager Camila is to go to the demon realm and kick some gooey Belos butt. Again, she is such a good mom that she is willing to beat the ever-loving crap out of Belos for those whom she considers her children.
I don't remember the exact quote, but in this scene, Amity basically says something along the lines of: "I don't know what the future holds, but I would be so glad if you would be a part of it."
Luz actually said the same thing to Amity when asking her out back in "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door", so this serves as a nice callback to when the two began their relationship.
Camila tells Vee that someone named Carmen is in charge at the vet clinic. But it's also easy for me to mishear "Carmen" as "Cartman". And God forbid Eric Cartman ever be put in charge of anything...
"YOU WILL ALL RESPECT. MAH. AUTHORITAH."
"Shoooooooooooooooot... Camila still has the car keys!"
And on that note, we end our look at "Thanks to Them". Next time will be "For the Future", but until then, farewell!
Pings:
Episode 1 season 3 Camila has a “ find my phone app “ on luz’s phone.. so what happens if you go through the portal with the phone? Does it just disappear? Would it give you the last location? Luz had internet when she went through for the first time so I don’t think it’d disappear since it is technically findable
The fact that the creators of TOH are HK fans is the best thing ever lol
Please play Hollow Knight if you haven't, it's so good and so depressing. If that hasn't convinced you, there are gay bugs. 👍
I know that most people don't remember/know me, but you must trust me on this. /hj
I came up with this when I was crossing the road a few days ago, and thought I should draw it. :)
(Set sometime while the Hexsquad is trapped in the Human Realm.)
I feel like Hunter would do something stupid like this. Lol!
