Amity and Luz had put up a facade until Understanding Willow and Reaching Out, respectively.
Amity and Luz had put up a facade until Understanding Willow and Reaching Out, respectively.
Sorry if I haven't posted one of these in a few days, I've been busy with real-life stuff. But now I'm back, so let the rambling once again commence!
Also... still no refunds... even if this was briefly on hiatus.
Let's get started!
Bread puns! As it turns out, King gets his sense of humor from his old man.
HE'S REGURGITATING! STAND CLEAR!
Hooty is ready to join the episode's main plot... not today, I'm afraid.
Oh deary me, the bacon is back!
Behold! It's... OBVIOSO! Gee, I wonder who that could be behind the moustache... ah, forget it, I'm not entertaining Tibbles' poor attempts at disguise.
An outdated human reference!
DEAR GOD, IT'S THE FUN POLICE! THEY'VE FOUND ME AGAIN!
Notice the poster next to Eda's... with the bear animatronic. Actually, that's supposed to be a reference to the old animatronic pizzeria chain ShowBiz Pizza, and its main mascot, Billy Bob.
That is not Freddy Fazbear. I repeat: NOT FREDDY FAZBEAR.
"HUR HUR HUR HUR!"
Piss off, Fazbender!
Now, where were we...?
"No refunds!"
See? He gets it! Why should I give refunds if I'm not even charging for this in the first place!
Seems Hooty spent the whole day with a bug (which he eats seconds later). Yep, I can understand why our mains wanted to stay out of that boring plot.
Guess what, guys?
IT'S SKARLOEY'S 160TH BIRTHDAY!
Wait... what's that?
Uh... it seems there's been a typo...
It's actually Skara's 15th birthday... screw that, I'd rather go to Skarloey's birthday party.
@ThomasH3arts Get in loser, we're going to Crovan's Gate for Skarloey's party.
On another note, Skara's VA, Kimberly Brooks, is a recurring VA on "South Park", in case you found that interesting.
Remember kids... drugs are bad... m'kay?
KID FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!
Look, I know it can be tempting to give into those NAGGING VOICES IN YOUR HEAD TELLING YOU TO BURN IT DOWN, BURN IT ALL DOWN!
But arson isn't the solution to everything, Amity!
Welcome to the mindscape! This is our first time getting a glimpse at such a place, and it won't be our last time! Oh boy, it sure won't be our last time... oh ho ho! ("Hollow Mind" is my favorite episode if you couldn't tell.)
Luz and Amity try to ring their bell to tell Eda they need to get out of Willow's mindscape... but Eda's a little busy at the moment.
LET'S SEE IF KING CAN MAKE SOME MORE NOISE! I LOVE NOISE!
Doth I spy the trademark Blight blush? They're all secretly tomatoes.
And now we meet the Inner Willow... it sure won't be our last time facing someone's inner self in this show- yeah, you get it by now.
Oh great... these two. Alador's redemption arc hasn't started yet so I'm grouping him in with his nasty wife.
Yes, this is the first appearance of Odalia Blight... and even if I'm only seeing her silhouette, it still gives me the urge to GIVE IN TO THE VOICES AND BURN IT ALL DOWN!
Meanwhile, in B-Plot land, Gus has been trying to find an interesting person to write about for his journalism class. He settles on... Hooty. Eda says Gus is dead to her now.
"Oh, right... I forgot I had people in there."
Interviewing Hooty turned out to be a bad idea.
King's exposure to the human realm's internet has taught him that the Earth is flat... Luz was right to take away the child's device.
HE'S REGURGITATING AGAIN! RUN FOR IT!
Don't need to give this one a caption, do I?
Mere seconds later, Amity would proceed to beat Hooty's sorry face to a pulp.
JESUS CHRIST, IT'S A REDDITOR!
Luz is very right to be afraid.
Aww... she's got a little King watch! Did she get that custom-made or something?
Let's put our hands up for Principal Bump, the man who makes children fight Grometheus the Fear-Bringer and throws a party around it.
I'll say it again... THIS MAN IS A LIABILITY. I respect that.
GROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
JESUS CHRIST, IT'S THE REDDITOR AGAIN! TAKE IT AWAY, IT PAINS ME TO LOOK!
Ah, here it is... the famous Lumity dance. Truly an iconic moment with an awesome score to boot.
Ehh... I saw that coming.
"I AM KING AND QUEEN, BEST OF BOTH THINGS!"
Ah, the lad really does take after his father.
It turns out... someone has been impersonating Luz in the human realm! "Let's do lots of fun mother/daughter activities forever and ever," is definitely not a normal human thing to write, Vee.
Also, misspelling Luz's name and crossing it out isn't making you look any less suspicious. Remember: It's Luz with a Z, not an S. "Lus" is not a word, so unless you were trying to write out the name of the ship R.M.S. Lusitania for some reason, best to not make that mistake again.
Yep, I pushed one of my special interests into this with a lame joke, as I'm inclined to do. What can I say, the Lusitania was a fine ship.
And... this poor guy has been dangling from this rope, acting as a makeshift disco ball for the entire episode. That's another liability for Bump!
I think it's about time for Bump to, as we say in the human realm, BETTER CALL SAUL!

There are many people who fail to fully understand Amity's character, backstory, and her intentions when it comes to her pretending to be a bully and don't even bother recontextualizing everything after Understanding Willow. This lack of understanding can be attributed to various reasons, such as not paying enough attention to the details, taking everything they see on screen at face value, or simply misunderstanding the complexity of her character.
Her first episode "I Was a Teenage Abomination" looked like that, but once we got to "Covention", I pretty much realized there's way more to her than we initially thought. And when "Lost in Language" came along, it became pretty clear that she is not a bad person whatsoever.
All that stuff we saw in the beginning of the show, like in the first season? Yeah, it was all just an act and façade. Turns out, she's just a miserable loner, who was emotionally abused, neglected, and never given a genuinely love. Her pretending to hang out with Boscha led to the former being shunned and distrusted by everyone, as they believed she was a snobby rich girl like Boscha.
Amity was pressured and blackmailed into becoming a top student by Odalia who forced her to act like a rich snobbish bully and compelled her to get green hair because she wanted her children to be "color coordinated", despite the fact that Amity inherited her father Alador's hair color.
Understanding Willow proves without a shadow of a doubt that Amity is not and never was a bully: She was just faking it and ONLY pretended to be one because her selfish stuck-up asshole mother, Odalia, forced her to after blackmailing her into ending her friendship with Willow. For seven years, Amity PRETENDED to be mean to Willow, because she knew if Odalia ever found out Amity still cared about Willow and being friendly with her, then Odalia would follow through on her threat to get Willow expelled from Hexside. This episode makes it clear that Amity never actually wanted to hurt Willow and was just forced into it. She couldn't stand seeing Boscha hurting Willow, but she had to pretend not to care and keep up the act. Deep down, Amity always loved and cared about Willow. She was just putting on an act to protect her best friend from Odalia. That's all there was to it.
Amity was looking a better future that would make her happy, since she didn't have it in the past. Even though she didn't like being forced to join the Emperor's Coven, she hoped that if she had to do it, she might as well try to get something good out of it, like love and respect from everyone. But, ironically, that never would have happened at all.
Amity never had any social life after what happened with Willow, she couldn't stand Boscha and her gang and didn't have any actual friends; she only hung out with them superficially under Odalia's influence.
All Amity wanted was love, respect, and a real friends who she can laugh with and grow together with, but they keep being taken away.
When Luz came around and befriended her, Amity's life got a million times better and she was actually happy for the first time in literal years. She has finally began to come out of the shell that Odalia forced her in and became a better person for it.
The ONLY time Amity was GENUINELY mean was when she was rightfully angry with Luz for helping Willow cheat at her school assignment and getting her sent to Principal Bump's office.
Amity never had any social life after what happened with Willow, she couldn't stand Boscha and her gang and didn't have any actual friends; she only hung out with them superficially (it means fakely) under Odalia's influence. Once Luz befriended her, Amity's life got a million times better and she was actually happy for the first time in literal years.
Same as the one with Luz, Amity didn't wanted Boscha and her gang to find out about her true friendship with Willow, so she tried to burn the photo memory of their childhood friendship.
Boscha was not fully aware of Amity's blackmailing by Odalia until presumably during the timeskip in the finale, in which they probably became friends for actual this time.
I initially thought of Amity as a mean rich girl who bullies everyone, including Willow; however, as the series went on, I didn't see her as such, and after watching episodes beginning with "Lost in Language" and ending with "Understanding Willow", it all made WAY TOO MUCH sense on who she REALLY is and WHY she behaved the way she did:
Amity has a complex trauma (C-PTSD) from her upbringing; she was emotionally abused by Odalia, emotionally neglected by Alador who enables Odalia's abusive behavior, and even teased and pushed away by Emira and Edric. Because of that, Amity was raised as a miserable loner with no love or respect, and under Odalia's influence, she had been living a lie and putting on an act and façade (such as being bully, faking her desire of joining the coven which was forced upon by Odalia, associating with Boscha and her gang which was also forced upon by Odalia, etc).
Both "Lost in Language" and "Understanding Willow" made crystal clear without a shadow of a doubt that Amity was NEVER a bully she appeared to be; her selfish and harsh behavior was simply a reaction to how she was treated as a child, as well as her coping with not only her childhood trauma she had endured in years, but also her loneliness and misery as a result of Odalia forcing her to end her friendship with Willow. She never wanted to hurt Willow and was forced to do so; she was just pretending to dislike Willow and acting as a bully to protect her from Odalia and that's all. Compared with her favorite children's book character Odiban; Amity never had real friends and her friendship with Willow was forcefully cut off by Odalia, who bullied her into associating with Boscha, who was a real bully. She never considered Boscha and her gang as her real friends and never called them "her friends" at all. Odalia compelled Amity to get green hair because she wanted her children to be "color coordinated", despite the fact that Amity inherited her father Alador's hair color. All she wanted was love, respect, and a real friends who she can laugh with and grow together with, but they keep being taken away.
And here's more, Amity never wanted to join the Emperor's Coven; her seeming excitement to join it was, IN FACT, forced upon her by Odalia. Amity also hoped that if she will have to participate in something she dislikes, she might as well try to get something out of it for herself such as love and respect from her family and the others. Amity was expecting for a better future since, according to her sister Emira, the former wasn't happy in the past and it wasn't denied by Amity who was looking for a future that would make her happy, which ironically wouldn't have happened at all.
But when Luz came around (despite taking some time), Amity finally began to come out of the shell that Odalia forced her in and Amity became a better person for it.
And besides that, Amity DID deserve to be mean to Luz from the beginning, even if she wasn't ACTUALLY bullying her; she was just VERY ANGRY at her for helping Willow cheat and getting her in trouble at school. As for King, she was only mean to him by association because he knew Luz.
Amity DIDN'T try to dissect Luz. She was just trying to force Luz into revealing she wasn't an abomination. What she wanted was to prove Willow cheated. Luz wasn't tied up or anything, if she didn't want to get stabbed all she had to do was... move out of the way.
Amity never had any social life after what happened with Willow, she couldn't stand Boscha and her gang and didn't have any actual friends; she only hung out with them superficially (it means fakely) under Odalia's influence. While in Willow's mind, the real reason Amity didn't wanted to fix the memory of her friendship with Willow is that she didn't want Luz to find out, because she was afraid Luz would judge her especially without the proper context and thought she'd end up losing another real friend.
However, thanks to Luz's emotional support, Amity reconciled with Willow by explaining the whole situation and ended her forced association with Boscha and her gang in Understanding Willow; they became friends again in Wing it Like Witches which chronologically takes place either a few weeks or maybe one month after Enchanting Grom Fright. Despite fixing everything and regaining her friendship with Willow who understood and forgave her, Amity still felt bad about what happened, both the part with Odalia and the fact that she almost burned up Willow's brain trying to hide it, she knows Willow isn't angry anymore, but she still felt bad that all that stuff still happened because she was afraid to let Luz and Willow know the truth.
Everyone saying Willow hasn't forgiven Amity because of the "bullying", but it's not true.
Amity never actually bullied Willow, but protected her from Odalia. Understanding Willow proves without a shadow of a doubt that Amity was never a bully: She only and I mean ONLY acted like that because Odalia forced her to. Everything we saw early on was Amity just putting on an act she was always just pretending to not care about Willow to make sure she didn't get kicked out of Hexside, cause Odalia said she'd do it if Amity maintained her friendship with Willow or being friendly with her. The point is Amity is not and never was a bully. This episode makes it clear that Amity never wanted to hurt Willow and was just forced into it, she always loved and cared about her best friend, because like I said before she was just putting on an act to protect Willow from Odalia and that's it. That's all it ever was.
Willow did forgive Amity and knew that she has been only pretending to be bully to protect her and never wanted to betray or hurt her at all. They had mended their friendship in Wing it Like Witches after their reconciliation with Understanding Willow. "Patched things up" means you mend your friendship with someone, so Amity and Willow became friends again in Wing it Like Witches which chronologically takes place either a few weeks or maybe one month after Enchanting Grom Fright.
Despite rekindling their friendship, in Follies at the Coven Day Parade, when Amity said "I'm glad we can be like this again", Willow stopped smiling, now knowing that what she and Amity had before isn't the same as it was and she feels like it won't ever be that way again, even though she'd like it to be, but they are at the very least back to being friends again.

In this episode, Amity and Willow had rekindled their friendship after their reconciliation in Understanding Willow.
Summer technically goes from June 1st up to September 21st if I remember correctly, but ok let's ballpark it at six weeks to maybe half of 1 month at most, anyway but I am VERY sure that those two episodes were at the VERY LEAST several weeks apart AT MOST.
I like how Luz and King went to the carnival together.
I like how Amity and Luz take a trip to Willow's memory lane.

Okay, so we know how similar Skara sounds to Karen Beecher of DCSHG 2019 even in terms of raspy quality, especially due to both being voiced by the same person: Kimberly Brooks. However, there are some moments of earlier Owl House episodes like "Understanding Willow" where she doesn't sound raspy at all, and it's still the same VA. I'm looking for clarity. Was I mishearing?
It was quite nice to see Willow have another episode sorta semi - dedicated to her. This is one of the only “Willow and her feelings” episodes in ages. I was also very angry about huntlow
