Last time, we got a good dose of Lumity. And there will be plenty more Lumity today. But do you know what's more fun to watch than romance? DESPOTIC OVERLORDS!
Let's get started with the final episodes of Season 1!
"Why can't you be more like her?"
Wow, that is the second-ugliest eggplant I've ever seen... the ugliest being the one I see every time I look in the mirror.
"It's not like she can follow us around all day!"
"SHE FOLLOWED US AROUND ALL DAY!"
I wonder if "round ears" constitutes as a slur towards humans?
"Boscha got away with murder? I can't say I approve, but at least she's trying new things!"
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Rewatching this show, I'm remembering just how criminally negligent Principal Bump is. One of my favorite characters, honestly.
Kidnapping!
Don't look now, Willow, there's a tomato behind you!
Ah, yes... my favorite 1970's boxing film: "RICKY". I think Ricky fights the General Secretary of the Soviet Union in the fourth movie.
"WHAT HAPPENS IN THE MONTAGE STAYS IN THE MONTAGE!"
Sadly, Gus' flags did not survive.
"These flags have become the flags of surrender." And with that, the flag was officially adopted as the new flag of France.
Luckily, he gets to wave his flags later in the episode, so good for him! He deserves to wave his flags and be happy!
Amity failing miserably at trying to keep her crush on Luz under wraps.
"You lost me."
-Gus' response to the disaster he just witnessed.
JESUS CHRIST, IT'S A PORTAL TO HELL!
YES! STEP ON HIS FACE! HOOTY ABUSE IS FUNNY!
"And... scoop!"
"Weak nerd arms"... yeah, right.
The Hooty abuse continues. Dear God, they're showing him no mercy! Oh, the Hootmanity!
"Agony of a Witch" opens rather ominously with these foreboding shots of the Emperor's Castle. And there's no background music... just the ominous presence of the Emperor's Castle.
Dear God, this is brutal. This is why Hooty was deemed a violation of the Geneva Convention.
"Hoot hoot, more like Geneva Suggestion!"
Took the words right out of my mouth, Hooty!
The war crimes continue as Hooty shows his prisoners-of-war no mercy.
And... Amity has been sidelined for the rest of the season! I know you're going through your "character arc", but you were kind of a jerk at the beginning of this season, so no participation in the big season finale for you! Better luck next season!
Willow, in explaining who Emperor Belos is to Luz, says that he (and not Eda) is the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles.
Of course, Willow is technically wrong... he's not a witch at all.
But let's not get too ahead of ourselves.
The beating heart of the Titan. That's not disturbing at all!
Also... notice how what appears to be the Titan's ribcage is incorporated into the surrounding walls.
Well, friends... the time has come. We're about to meet everyone's favorite undying British peepaw!
Everyone, give a warm welcome to...
WILLIAM AFT- uh... I mean- EMPEROR BELOS!
Shh... the old man's sleeping. Or maybe he's about to cough up his intestines.
In all seriousness, though... what an entrance for one of my all-time favorite villains. He is voiced superbly by Matthew Rhys, a Welsh actor of both the screen and stage. I mean, he's done Shakespeare on the stage, so you know he's the real deal. Just goes to show that voice acting for an animated show is no less acting than doing Shakespeare in front of a live audience.
Okay Peepaw, it's time to take your meds.
"I WILL KNOW."
This scene is genuinely terrifying. "Big Brother is always watching" levels of terrifying.
Great going, bozo, you just told your sister you cursed her. This is why we think before we speak, young lady!
The end credits of "Agony of a Witch" don't use the usual Season 1 credit sequence that every episode beforehand did. Instead, it's just another ominous shot of the Emperor's Castle. Once again, there's no music, but you can hear the beating of the Titan's heart from deep inside... and you can still hear it beating even as the credits end and the Disney Television Animation logo with a cheerful Michael Rodent is shown.
They really are siblings.
Luz and King's diabolical plan to get into the Conformatorium.
In the very first episode, Warden Wrath seemed like such a formidable foe... which makes it even funnier to see how easily intimidated he is. Luz really went: "My powers have grown since the last time we met."
As much as we all like Lumity, arguably the most important relationship in this show is the familial relationship between Luz, Eda, and King. In that regard, this scene is quite heartbreaking, but also quite heartwarming at the same time. Even over the course of just this one season, these characters have grown so much and regard each other as family now.
"She helped me rediscover my love for teaching... after she left."
It's funny how he throws her around like a ragdoll. He seems nigh unstoppable here, yet he'll eventually meet his end as a pile of goo literally begging for mercy at her feet.
And another thing: Every time he faces Luz, he loses in some way. This time around, he lost the portal. The second time, he turns into goo and his plans for the Day of Unity are thwarted. The third time... he heckin' dies!
"We'll meet again... don't know where... don't know when... but I know we'll meet again some sunny day!"
Like any good politician, Belos is great at coming up with absolute rubbish in order to keep his people under control. After seeing how suddenly unpopular Eda's petrification has become, he tells the people that the Titan has told him to spare Eda and to let her cursed form serve as a warning.
Again, to put it in the nicest of terms: absolute rubbish.
Belos has charged a certain someone with the task of monitoring the Owl House... turns out, he's just a really sad boi who likes wolves.
And here we are... the very last shot of Season 1, an ominous glimpse at things yet to come.
But that's another story...
Pings:
Don't you think Eda and King's reasons for why Warden Wrath had to help Eda are ridiculously petty? Don't you think they should've given better reasons for why he should have to help Eda? The only good reason Eda had was Warden Wrath "imprisoning" Luz, which never happened. She probably meant to say threatened. How are chopping off her head and stealing his crown good reasons for why he should have to help her? How about wrongfully imprisoning and punishing innocent people for ridiculously minor reasons and playing sort of a role in Eda's petrification ceremony? Those are better reasons.
I just finished Young Blood, Old Souls and I’m wondering. I never really got it so I just wanna make sure, Philip created the portal right? Or am I just making stuff up?
Do you think Emira Blight should've appeared in "Young Blood, Old Souls"? Do you think she should've attended Eda's petrification ceremony?
Is it just me or did Luz use a light glyph that made thorny vines in young blood old souls?
Do you think the Collector was the one who imprisoned the Owl Beast in the scroll that Lilith Clawthorne purchased at the Night Market or do you think it was some other Collector that imprisoned the Owl Beast in the scroll?
Do you think Eda Clawthorne probably can't take a joke? She has no problem with tauntingly reminding Warden Wrath about Luz Noceda defeating him twice and even tells him to chill out when he got angry at her, but after learning that King lied to Edric Blight about Warden Wrath being her ex-boyfriend, she snapped at Edric for innocently calling Warden Wrath her ex.
Do you think Boscha, Emira Blight, Katya and Tinella Nosa should've attended Eda Clawthorne's petrification ceremony in "Young Blood, Old Souls"?

I was rewatching Young Blood, Old Souls and I saw an error whenever Luz uses a plant glyph on the petrification device and it’s actually a light glyph
