I think Odalia is not the villain we think she is in the Owl House, but a damaged woman who was herself a victim of her society, often children who grow up in toxic environments or abusive households will pick up the bad habits of their parents or those around them considering them normal behavior like leaders and considering Belos ruled the boiling isles like a dictator it's no wonder why but let's dig deeper. in an AMA Dana Terrace said "We haven't seen much of these characters outside of school but I like to think that Boscha's mother and Amity's mother have a tense rivalry from childhood and they're still trying to one up each other with the accomplishments of their children." it's clear that demons are treated as second class citizens when compared to witches so it's possible momma Boscha had an inferiority complex due to her being a demon and all so she chose to make a rival of Odalia due to her family being affluent and because her family was so famous of sorts it seems her parents could have been strict with her like she was with Amity and the twins. Also take note of the old sword on the mantlepiece where the family picture was hung, I doubt Odalia or Alador would ever join the military so it's possible that the Blight family may have had a war hero in the past. Perhaps with Odalia's Mother or father or some other ancestor and due to their service to the boiling isles and possibly Belos they were decorated as a war hero and went on to build Blight manor, it could also explain Odalia's need for control since it's possible due to the possibility that this ancestor was either Odalia's father, grandfather or some head of the family that would have control over Odalia's upbringing. Take into account who the principal for Hexside was when Odalia was a child, Principal Faust. A strict demon who would punish students severely for being late if not other misdemeanors and something else overlooked that at hexside"If a student is causing trouble at school, guards send them to a detention room, where students are encased in blue cocoons surrounded by giant serpentine creatures to put them in a trance until they learn and/or are hypnotized to behave" and since Odalia used to be a student there it might mean she too was hypnotized by those creatures but something went wrong and caused her to behave more selfishly in the show, another strict person in Odalia's life next to her parents and Belos, not to mention living in a place where rainbows turn you inside out and people die of horrible deaths constantly is it any wonder why Odalia became a control freak? Now to move onto her marriage to Alador, I think at first she did truly love Alador but due to his forgetful nature and being easily distracted I think it started to fizzle out, it's quite possible Alador in all his busy work tended to forget about important events in the family's life such as birthdays and anniversaries and so Odalia began to see him less as her husband and more of a partner obsessed with his work so she took it upon herself to run blight industries while her husband worked on and on. since she was isolated in this way with her husband more interested in insects than keeping his factory afloat and her overworked to keep the factory from closing down it was the perfect time for Belos' henchmen to swoop in and sway her with lies from the emperor about the day of unity, just like the lie he told the coven heads where if she did his bidding she and her family would inherit paradise and the unworthy would be purged. Thinking it was a good deal she took the offer never seeing Belos' true intentions, he was the beloved and powerful leader and anyone who said otherwise would be put in the conformatorium, or worse, is it any wonder she didn't want her family to suffer the same fate? so she worked with Belos to supply him with abomatons in a misguided attempt to keep her family safe and had to keep Alador in the dark hoping the ends justified the means, never once thinking she'd be on the chopping block next. but now for the big ones, in the storyboards for watching and dreaming we see Odalia with the hexside squad. A possible redemption? It might seem like that but sadly it was cut out due to time constraints and the infamous shortening, and now for the kicker. In the posthoot Dana said that after the divorce the kids still visit, why? after everything why would they? because they see Odalia for the damaged person she is and don't want to leave her out but also keeping in mind that if she gets too much they don't have to interact and Odalia knows this and she has not much else to lose so I think after sorting herself out and self reflection Odalia tries to reform off screen, now keep in mind this theory is speculation due to my observations and findings on people with narcissism, what causes toxic parenting and so on so take it as you will. I am the theorizer in this and I hope this theory made you think a little. I'm not saying it excuses everything but I hope it sheds some light on why she did what she did and hopefully see her in a different light, not of an abusive mother but one who was blind sighted by ambition into being a pawn for a genocidal maniac and did want the best for her family but went about it the wrong way
