Avi Roque (born May 26, 1989) is a Latin actor, best known for their works in Chicago Med and Landline.
For The Owl House, they voice Raine Whispers.[1]
Life and career
Roque was born on May 26, 1989 in San Francisco, California to Alma and Angelo Roque.[2] They have an older sister named Selena.[2] They are of Mexican, Honduran, and Puerto Rican descent. Roque was assigned female at birth and later came out as transgender and non-binary in 2019, later undergoing a full transformation.
From a young age, Roque was enrolled in art classes, and in high school, they became involved with theater.[2] They attended college at California State University and graduated in 2011 with a bachelor's associate in theater.[2]
Upon graduating from college, Roque acquired their first job working as an intern at the New Conservatory Theater Center, later becoming an in-house actor that October.[2]
In 2012, Roque left the New Conservatory Theater Center and joined the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club the following year, remaining there until 2015.[2] Between 2016 and 2018, they found work with various local companies and talent agencies.
Eventually, in March of 2020, Roque was hired by Macmillan Audio as an audiobook narrator.[2] In December of that year, they married fellow actor Christina Nieves, with whom they had been in a relationship since July of 2019. According to Roque, they had met in 2010 at a theater event and have been inseparable ever since.[2]
They own two cats and are an artist, making drawings in their free time.
