The common mold is a viral illness that is found in the Boiling Isles.

Appearance[]

The common mold causes fungi to grow from the host's head.

Background[]

The disease is supposedly the Boiling Isles's equivalent to the common cold, in that it inflicts the same symptoms as the common cold's associated virus, such as a stuffy nose and nasal discharge. However, more significant effects of this disease include hallucinations, temporary personality changes, and the growth of various fungi on the host's head, although they do not appear to be malignant and fall off when the host moves.[1]

There is no known cure for the common mold, but resting and drinking fluids may improve symptoms until the condition runs its course. It does not seem to last very long, because Luz Noceda recovered within one day. Eda says it is generally harmless for witches and demons, but the full effects the virus has on humans is unknown. However, Luz gets the virus and seems to go through all of its listed symptoms without any severe or permanent damage.[1]
