And I practice the ancient art of fanfiction!
—Katya, "A Lying Witch and a Warden"

Katya is a minor character in The Owl House. She is a young witch who was incarcerated in the Conformatorium for writing fanfiction about food falling in love.

She subsequently escaped the facility in the midst of Eda's battle with Warden Wrath and joined the Bards Against the Throne, a revolutionary group formed by Raine Whispers with the intention of opposing Emperor Belos. She has since joined the group's successor, the Covens Against the Throne.

Appearance[]

Body[]

Katya is a humanoid witch with pointy ears, dark skin, and black hair styled in a ponytail with a few tuffs sticking out the front. She has upturned hazel eyes with three eyelashes on each eye as well as distinguished fangs.

Clothing[]

Katya initially wore an off-the-shoulder indigo-colored dress that covered all of her upper arms and about half her forearms. She had a gold band around her neck and sported black, calf-length blue-grey high-heeled boots.

After joining the Bards Against the Throne, she wears their uniform, which consists of a beige shirt, a maroon vest with golden trim and a singular golden button, red pants, a set of black fingerless gloves, dark grey heeled boots with the cuffs, toes, and heels being colored in black, and she also wore a black spiral choker. Her hair is also kept up with a red hair tie instead of her previous blue one.

Personality[]

Katya is a kind-hearted young woman who is very passionate about writing fanfiction where sentient foods fall in love with each other. She was imprisoned at the Conformatorium because of this and disagrees with the way the Conformatorium imprisons people who don't fit in society. She does not believe the prisoners trapped there deserve to be considered criminals and believes that they didn't do anything wrong to be there. Upon seeing Luz trying to open her cell, she advised her to leave the Conformatorium while she still can and to enjoy her freedom. When Katya was given the chance to escape the Conformatorium, she instead chose to stay there, knowing that Warden Wrath would catch her and her fellow prisoners. Her mindset on this changed once Luz gave her and the other prisoners an inspirational speech, telling them that no one should be punished for who they are and to embrace being a weirdo. Katya and the others started a riot outside and worked with Luz to attack the Warden.

Background[]

Escaping the Conformatorium[]

Katya is incarcerated for writing fanfiction about food falling in love along with Tinella Nosa and the Eye-Eating Prisoner. Luz feels sorry for them because she relates to their outcast status but fails to free them. Katya then advises the human to leave and enjoy her freedom for them. Later, when Luz manages to open the prison bars, the inmates are hesitant to leave, believing that escape is pointless and that it is only a matter of time before the Warden will incarcerate them again anyway. However, an inspirational speech from Luz motivates the three inmates to attack the Warden, and their combined efforts send him fleeing.[1]

Fighting against the Day of Unity[]

Sometime afterward, Katya joins the Bards Against the Throne and participates in raids against the Emperor's Coven. The group is joined by Eda, who helps them sabotage the Emperor's Coven. However, they receive word of a raid that turns out to be a trap. She, Derwin, and Amber are caught by Darius and Eberwolf, and the three are sent to the Conformatorium, much to her anger.[2] Later on, it was revealed that she escaped the Conformatorium as part of a ruse by Darius and joined the Covens Against the Throne.[3]

Shortly before the Day of Unity, Katya and the rest of the CATs team up with Eda, Darius, Eberwolf, Lilith, Steve, Hooty, King, and Luz in an attempt to stop the Draining Spell. After they decide to have Eda branded with a Bard Coven sigil so she can take Raine's place as Head Bard, Katya takes Luz to meet up with Willow, Gus, and Hunter to rescue the Blight children. Katya meets back up with the CATs at the head of the Titan, but their plan to stop the Draining Spell fails, as they are discovered and held as prisoners.

They are turned into puppets by The Collector, and months later are freed after Belos is defeated. She, Derwin, and Amber work with Steve to convince holdouts in the Emperor's Coven to abandon the old ways.

Epilogue[]

Four years later, she and the rest of the CATs attend Luz's belated quinceañera and watch the light show The Collector puts on.

Relationships[]

Luz Noceda[]

Katya and Luz first met at the Conformatorium to get King's crown back. Luz later freed her and convinced her and the other prisoners to take on Warden Wrath. She and Luz would meet again after rescuing her and Eda from being taken to Belos and work on a plan to stop the Draining Spell. Before stopping the Draining Spell, Katya drops her off to meet up with Hunter, Willow, and Gus to save Amity and her siblings.

Covens Against the Throne[]

Katya joined the BATs led by Raine sometime after escaping the Conformatorium. She would work with them to rescue covenless witches from the Emperor's Coven and take them somewhere safe. After Darius and Eberwolf pretended to have captured them and Raine faked being brainwashed, Katya continued working with them to stop Belos and the Draining Spell. After Belos was finally destroyed, Katya and the CATs set out to locate the remaining coven scouts and convince them to help rebuild the isles and put behind the coven system.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Magic: Like most witches, Katya is able to use magic by means of a sac of magic bile attached to her heart.
    • Bard magic: As a member of the Bard Coven, Katya is able to use music to manipulate the world around her. She uses a tambourine as her instrument.
