The unnamed Keeper of the Looking Glass Graveyard is a minor character in The Owl House. He is the guardian of the Looking Glass Ruins.
Appearance[]
Body[]
The keeper is an elderly witch with a mostly bald head and white hair and beard. He has pale skin, pointy ears, and light blue eyes with bags underneath.
Clothing[]
He wears a dark turquoise top with a teal robe which has a small tear/rip and white sleeves. He wears red-violet boots and appears to have cobwebs all over his robe.
Personality[]
The keeper is eccentric from living in isolation for an extended period of time and takes his job seriously.
Background[]
Keeping Watch[]
As witches in the Illusion Coven do not benefit from the power-enhancing Galdorstones, they were tasked with guarding these coveted relics. The Keeper is one of these witches and is the current guardian of both the Galdorstones and the graves of its former guardians. To keep intruders from defacing the graves of deceased illusionists and stealing the Galdorstones, the Keeper casts an illusion of a guardian creature that can supposedly manipulate weather and summon ghosts. His illusion guardian proves successful, as it deters witches and demons from stealing the Galdorstones; not even the esteemed Head Illusionist, Adrian Graye Vernworth, was able to obtain one of these powerful items.
Fending Off Intruders[]
When the young illusionist Gus Porter finds out that the guardian beast is nothing more than an illusion, the Keeper is ecstatic to have a visitor who is a fellow illusionist. However, with the guardian creature's true nature exposed, Bria takes advantage of the situation and has both Gus and the Keeper restrained while she and her group loot the grave of its Galdorstones. After being freed by Mattholomule, the Keeper intends to call the hounds on the perpetrators, but Gus offers a more "creative" solution by casting a massive illusion on the graveyard.
Gus' illusions manages to fool Angmar and Gavin before luring them away, then he scares Bria into dropping the Galdorstones and leaving; the Keeper compliments the young illusionist for his creativity. Though the Keeper plans on hiding the Looking Glass Ruins for good to prevent more grave robbing, Gus and Mattholomule offer to help the Keeper build up the defenses of the ruins on weekends. The Keeper accepts their offer and sends the young witches off on their way.
Coven Day Parade[]
The Keeper operates a float during the Coven Day Parade. Once his illusion accidentally dispels, revealing him eating a sandwich and sitting in a chair, he appears to be rather bewildered in front of the crowd and disappears, projecting an image of a flock of doves taking flight in his place.
Epilogue[]
Four years after the defeat of Belos, the Keeper is seen working as an instructor at Headmaster Eda Clawthorne's University of Wild Magic, teaching a class about the Glass Graveyard.
Powers and abilities[]
- Magic: As a witch, the Keeper is able to use magic. Like all witches, his connection to magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to his heart.
- Illusion magic: The Keeper is very skilled at illusion magic, being able to create large illusions on short notice. He utilizes his skills in illusions to guard the Looking Glass Graveyard from vandals and those seeking the galdorstones, as well as creating a float for Coven Day.
