The Light Glyph is a glyph originating from the magic of Titans capable of generating light in various forms. The Titan's light glyph is the first form of magic learned of by Luz Noceda.[1]

Background[]

Like most spells, it is generated through the use of a spell circle. Luz discovered the glyph within Eda's spell circle through a glitch in her broken smartphone Eda's spell circle. She subsequently discovered this glyph to be a representation of a stellar constellation when she was training on the Knee.[2] Luz can cast the spell by drawing this glyph on a material surface. Luz can change the power of the spell by changing the size of the glyph much as other witches change the size of their spell circle.

Luz has since advanced her skill with the spell, having learned how to create light circuits, flashing lights, and even images with light that can be animated. She used these skills in creating an animated sign for Eda's Human Collectibles stand. Eda and Lilith have since learned to use the light glyph after losing their magic.[3]

King's Light Glyph

King's new Light Glyph.

Once the Titan had fully passed away, the power behind the glyphs faded away. But as King grew older and his Titan powers matured, he developed his own set of glyphs, including a new Light Glyph.[4]

Appearance[]

A line stretches from the bottom of the spell circle to about two-thirds up. A perfectly horizontal line connects two sides of the circle, one-third up from the bottom of the circle. The ends of the horizontal line are connected to the top of the vertical line. Two slanted bars cut through the vertical line just above the horizontal line. In the space between the top of the vertical line and the top of the circle, a circle that doesn't reach the top and two tangents from the circle to the top finish the glyph.

The new glyph is similar in appearance to King's father's light glyph, having a diamond with sides bending slightly inwards, a line going through said diamond vertically and a circle on the line along with another line going horizontally. The top of the diamond has a circle with two triangle resembling horns going straight up. The triangles' hypotenuses are curved slightly upwards.

Effect[]

The light glyph generates a floating sphere of light that may also consume material from the surface it was placed on. When drawn on paper, this light orb is notably suspended in the air, but it can be moved by gentle pushes of air, thus serving as mobile lighting. The spell can also create an intense flash of light, which increases depending on how large the glyph is made. Luz's fight with Lilith shows that two light glyphs can fire a beam of lightning,[5] and once had a drawn glyph set a script on fire with yellow flames before releasing a flash of light.[6]
