The Owl House Wiki

Mason[1] is a minor antagonistic character in The Owl House. He is one of the nine Coven Heads, being the Head Witch of the Construction Coven.

Mason is a short and bulky witch with tan skin, a long, gray beard and mustache, and teal eyes. He is entirely bald, save for three hairs on top of his head, and he has a wrinkle on his forehead.

In "Covention", Mason wears a gray tunic with a darker gray belt and brown sleeves representing the Construction Coven, a black cowl, black gloves, and dark gray boots with gray-beige patterning. In addition, he also wears two satchels on his belt; one of which stores a tiny hammer. He also wore a hard hat while displaying his and his coven's capabilities at the covention.

In "Hunting Palismen", Mason wore a white cape with the Construction Coven sigil on his neck over his current outfit: a gray vest over a brown short-sleeved shirt, a dark gray belt with a dull gold buckle where Mason keeps his hammer, brown pants with light tan patterns resembling battlements, and brown heeled boots.

Not much can be inferred about Mason, but he is shown to be completely loyal to Emperor Belos and willing to harm anyone who opposes the emperor's plans. Nevertheless, he appears to be friendly towards the Covention attendees, suggesting that he may not be necessarily evil, but rather someone who merely follows orders unquestioningly.

Mason at the Covention.

During the annual covention, Mason represents the Construction Coven and builds a house in less than five seconds by simply tossing materials up in the air. He also gives Tinella Nosa a power glyph, causing the small demon to throw the Head Witch upwards powerfully.[2]

Hunting Palismen - 026

As Head Witch of the Construction Coven, Mason is integral to Emperor Belos' plans and is tasked with inducting members into the Construction Coven.[3] Along with his peers, he was present when Raine Whispers became the new head of the Bard Coven.[4] He and the other heads later walk out of a meeting since Belos would not be present, ignoring Hunter as they passed him by.[5]

King's Tide (853)

Mason fighting Eberwolf after the CATs' plan is exposed.

Later, during the Day of Unity, Mason and the other Coven Heads gather atop the ritual tower to begin the event. Soon afterward, the Coven Heads expose the CATs' plan to corrupt the Draining Spell by uncovering Eda, who was disguised as Raine. A fight breaks out, and Mason is attacked by flesh-eating fleas summoned by Head Beast Keeper Eberwolf after defending Plant Coven Head Terra Snapdragon from the former. Eventually, the rebels are restrained, along with Eda, Darius, and Raine, allowing the Draining Spell to continue as planned. However, when the Draining Spell's true effect takes hold, Mason collapses on the ground, his magic and life draining out of him until the spell is stopped by the Collector.[6]

For the Future - 2451

Mason and the other Coven Heads, save for Terra, as puppets guarding Eda.

However, he and the other Coven Heads, except Terra, are turned into puppets and placed in the Archive House to guard Eda, who is believed to be trapped in her owl beast form, attacking her if she tries to escape. Months later, after Belos is defeated, he and the other Coven Heads are returned to normal.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Magic: As a witch, Mason is able to use magic. Like all witches, his connection to magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to his heart. Having earned the rank of coven leader, he is undoubtedly very powerful.
    • Construction magic: As the leader of the Construction Coven, Mason can cast spells that allow him to manipulate the earth and create earth-based constructs.
    • Power glyphs: In "Covention," Mason is shown to carry power glyphs, marked with the brand of the Construction Coven. He can presumably use these to boost his magic and strength.
  • Super strength: Mason can throw up heavy construction materials high in the air, which then land on the ground to form a house.
