I know you must be confused. The Bloom of Eternal Youth, dead? What if I told you the Bloom never existed at all? And now that I have led you to my nest, I'll suck all the life out of you to satisfy my unending hunger!
—The Merchant to Eda and Lilith, "Sense and Insensitivity"

The unnamed merchant is a minor antagonistic character of The Owl House. He is a con artist who ran a deceptive stand at the Bonesborough Book Fair, selling maps to the nonexistent Bloom of Eternal Youth. This flower supposedly grows once a millennia and allows whoever holds it to be eternally youthful; in actuality, the maps would lead his victims into his nest, where he could then drain the life force from them. It is unknown if this has been successful in the past before Lilith and Eda.

Appearance[]

Body[]

The merchant is a tan-furred, batlike biped demon with a long, craning neck with small black hairs, a squashed pink nose, wrinkled lips, small pointed fangs and sharp teeth, pointed witch-like ears, and maroon eyebrows and sideburns. His eyes have shiny black pupils, pale yellow sclera, and dark eye bags. He has three large brown claws on either hand and a thick, rat-like tail.

Clothing[]

He wears a white cowl over a light blue robe with white trim, a darker blue cape, and a thin white belt around his waist. He has a small satchel tied around his neck, a light blue pillbox hat, and small orange shoes with white buckles.

Additional features[]

The merchant's eyes are capable of glowing bright orange in the dark.

Background[]

As the book fair is in Bonesborough, he gives Lilith and Eda Clawthorne a false map to the Bloom of Eternal Youth, with both sisters desiring it for their reasons: Lilith to acquire it for the Emperor, and Eda because it may cure her of her curse. When the Clawthorne sisters arrive, he attempts to drain their life force, however Lilith and Eda easily defeat him.[1]
