The Old House is located in the Connecticut town of Gravesfield in the Human Realm.[1][2][3]

Appearance[]

The house is an abandoned two-story house with white walls and a brown roof. It has a front door in the middle and two windows on each side of the door. It has four pillars in front, but the third one is broken. The house looks run-down from the outside with a large hole in the roof and two broken windows. The stairs are worn and there is moss hanging from the roof.

Right behind the front door is the living room; there is a fireplace to the right and an abandoned armchair in the left corner. The living room is filled with abandoned items, and the floor is littered with old newspapers. Behind the living room, a staircase leading upstairs can be seen. The house has a hallway leading to two rooms and a basement, in which furniture and a water heater are found.

There is a cork board filled with drawings right in the wall, and a couch right against the cork board along with a beanbag. There is a green striped wallpaper, and in the right, there is a yellow and purple wallpaper. There is a rug on the floor with a pet bed, with wooden tiles on the floor.

Background[]

This structure is found in the forest near the Noceda residence. It has an unexplained connection to the portal, being the destination the portal opens up to on the Human Realm's side from the Demon Realm.[1] Eda first entered this house after happening upon the portal in her youth.[4]

In present day, while waiting at the bus stop for camp, Luz Noceda chases Owlbert to the house where the portal was active and enters the Demon Realm.[1] At the same time, a basilisk named Vee goes through the portal and exits the house, where Luz's mother, Camila, finds her in disguise as Luz.[3] Later, Luz, Lilith, and King tumble through the house during their fight between realms, though they go back after resolving their conflict.[5]

Later, the old house is rigged by Gravesfield Historical Society curator Jacob Hopkins, who places cameras and traps inside the building in an effort to obtain more information on demons and witches.[3]

When fleeing from the Collector's destruction of the Boiling Isles, Luz, Willow, Amity, Gus, and Hunter escape through the portal and end up outside of the house on a dark and stormy night. The life force of Philip Wittebane soon closes the door of the house.[6] During their time in the Human Realm, Amity, Luz, Willow, Gus, and Hunter remodel the place, turning it into their hangout, and attempted to rebuild the portal in order to return to the demon realm.

Flapjack appears to be oddly familiar with the old house as he was able to locate a rebus that was hidden beneath an old floorboard. It pointed to the location of a vial of Titan's Blood that was hidden away in Gravesfield.

During the epilogue, it is shown that the house has been purchased by the Noceda family, and remodeled again, this time to serve as the location of a permanent portal to the Demon Realm.

Trivia[]

  • In a livestream, Dana Terrace suggested that the Old House may have originally been the home of Philip and Caleb Wittebane. She also stated Eda could have worked to build and restore the structure over the subsequent thirty years after she found the Human Realm.[7]
