Speaker Dialogue
(Open on Luz and King painting in the woods.)
Luz When I first got here, I thought everything was scary, or stinky, or both. But I've learned to see the beauty in everything by getting outside and painting in nature.
King [climbs up Luz's shoulder and points at her painting] Who's that?
(Focus on Luz's painting of the scenery before her, which seemingly contains a shapeless dark figure near the upper right corner.)
Luz Oh, that's just some... Bushes that looked like a dark, mysterious figure, right?
(Luz takes her painting off the easel to reveal the scenery in front of the two, in which there are no bushes present, nor anything in the area where the figure was. Cut back to Luz standing with King on her shoulder, now looking fearful.)
Luz That's funny. Wasn't there..? [shakes her head and puts the painting back on the easel] Anyway, Iā€” [gasp]
(The figure in the painting has now moved to the foreground, appearing much larger and with visible teeth. Luz jumps back from the painting, her and King both in shock, and nervously peers over it, gazing cautiously into the forest, which remains empty. Luz steps back from the canvas and attempts to proceed.)
Luz [anxiously] Sometimes my imagination gets away from me! [Sweating, she starts painting without looking at the canvas.] Only paint what you see, Luz.
King [looks at the canvas] [fur stands on end] L-L-Luz?
(The figure in the painting is now in the center of the painting holding a sign reading "I'M BEHIND YOU". A shadow falls over the two.)
(Luz and King turn around and scream in fear.)
(Cut to black. A light spell is activated, revealing a terrified, shivering Luz and King hiding under a blanket in the dark. A notepad is lying on the floor in front of them.)
Luz [nervously] And you know, sometimes you can find beauty and grow as an artist from theā€” [Cut to the outside of the blanket, which shows that the two are in Luz's room with all of the lights off. The window is boarded up.] ā€”safety of your own bed. [Starts drawing on the notepad.]
(Scene zooms out out to reveal that the dark figure from before, now sporting a beret and paintbrush, has painted the scene on a canvas.)
Dark figure So true!
(The dark figure continues painting.)
