Professor Hermonculus is a minor character of The Owl House. He is a teacher at Hexside School of Magic and Demonics who teaches students in the abomination track. He originally awarded Amity as the top student of the class, until he later promoted Willow to the position.
Appearance[]
Body[]
Professor Hermonculus is a short, stubby humanoid creature with pointed ears, a round beak-like mouth, with two fangs on the top row of his teeth, and two claws on each foot. He has green, chin-length hair with a large bald spot on the top of his head. He has small slanted eyes, inward-facing green eyebrows, and a small green beard, along with defined cheekbones.
In his youth, he is shown to have had a full head of hair held back by a red headband.
Clothing[]
He wears a black shirt and pants with an oversized purple coat with a red lining. He wears a light silver bow tie around his neck. He has small, round, orange-tinted glasses.
Additional features[]
At almost all times, he is carried by a mauve-colored abomination with a sad and drooping face and salmon-colored pupils in its black eyes.
Personality[]
Professor Hermonculus is shown to be a strict teacher with high standards. He seems to be only satisfied with a few students who show great potential in their magic, such as Amity Blight. He also holds grudges against students who leave his class. He seems to be an egotist, as he is almost always shown being carried by one of his (presumably) abominations, despite being shown to be perfectly able to walk in "Any Sport in a Storm".
In addition to his strict nature, Professor Hermonculus tends to act petty and behave unfairly towards students, especially those who trigger his envy. This is seen through students such as Willow, whom he harbors a grudge against for quitting his class. Out of pettiness, he attempts to ban Willow from setting up her own Flyer Derby club at Hexside. In addition, during their match, Professor Hermonculus, despite being out of the game, knocks Willow off of her staff from afar, sarcastically claiming his hand slipped.
Background[]
Early life[]
When he was younger, Professor Hermonculus played flyer derby with Principal Bump.[1]
Work at Hexside[]

Professor Hermonculus congratulating Willow on her “abomination”.
Upon seeing the class' poor presentation of abominations, Professor Hermonculus warns his students that they will receive extra homework should they keep failing. Amity wishes to present her abomination, but he tells her to wait until she is last, instead calling on Willow to present. Impressed with the abomination (who, unbeknownst to him and the class, is actually a disguised Luz Noceda) and its performance, Professor Hermonculus strips Amity of her top student badge, giving it to Willow as well as boosting her grade, much to Amity's ire.
Later, during lunchtime, Amity catches Luz eating, something which abominations are unable to do. Furious, she demands an explanation, shaking the human violently, which Professor Hermonculus walks in on. Believing her to be attacking out of jealousy, Professor Hermonculus orders Amity to Principal Bump's office immediately, despite her attempts to explain otherwise.[2]
Professor Hermonculus is among the crowd attending Bonesborough's annual covention.[3] Later, he is briefly seen again when Gus sneaks Luz back into Hexside. Luz notices the professor, and tries to reintroduce herself and apologize for the previous incident, doing so by asking him if he remembers her, and making strange moaning sounds. Although Professor Hermonculus notices Luz and gives her an uncertain look, he doesn't respond. Gus, panicking, quickly takes her away.[4] It's unknown if he knew about Luz's ban or not. Professor Hermonculus is among the many guests attending Grom.[5]

Professor Hermonculus and his team prepare to take on Willow and her team.
Professor Hermonculus attends the club fair, expressing his grudge against Willow for leaving his class and feeling skeptical that she can defeat his team in a game of flyer derby, let alone lead one. Despite his words, Willow remains convinced that she can and leads her team against Professor Hermonculus' team in a game at the grudgby fields. As the game reaches its end, he knocks Willow off her staff, sarcastically claiming it was an accident. When Willow's team wins, he is bitter about the defeat. As the opposing team celebrates, Professor Hermonculus finally registers Willow's team, named the Emerald Entrails by Hunter.[1]
