Ratworms are a species of beast demon native to the Boiling Isles. While not much is known about their kind, they appear to be popular riding animals for witches.
Appearance[]
As their name implies, ratworms possess many characteristics resembling real-world worms and rats. Ratworm bodies are limbless and resemble those of segmented worms, such as the earthworm. Their defining characteristic is their rat head.
Background[]
A pair of ratworms make their debut appearance in "Once Upon a Swap" when Boscha challenges King (in Luz's body) to a race on Dead Man's Curve. Despite their limbless bodies, ratworms are very extremely fast creatures and can maintain their top speed for an extended period of time; careless witches can find themselves either crashing or unable to stop a ratworm at top speeds.
The Beast Keeping Coven Head, Eberwolf, is seen riding a ratworm in "Eda's Requiem" during Raine's induction as Head Witch of the Bard Coven, suggesting that ratworms are ridden outside of races. Eberwolf can also summon and control said ratworm by using their Beast Keeping magic. In "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door", The diagram on the wall has ratworms classified as Beast Demons.
