A scrying potion? Lulu, you're trying to spy on your old buddies? I can help! We can find out their crushes. We can give them cute couple names!

Scrying is a spell that uses magic to view distant events in a reflective surface. Such surfaces include, but aren't limited to crystal balls, scrying mirrors and the reflective surfaces of liquids such as water or dedicated scrying potions. The events viewed can be separated in space, time or across dimensions or realms depending on the magic system in use.

Background[]

On the Boiling Isles, scrying has a dedicated coven.[1] However, scrying can also serve more covert purposes like surveillance and espionage. Given this possible use of scrying, it is likely, though not yet confirmed, that there may be magical defenses against such unauthorized observation.

Scrying spells can be brewed in potion forms. A typical spell requires the following ingredients:

Lilith brewed one potion, which revealed Emperor Belos from his castle.[2]

Trivia[]

  • The application of traditional magical objects on the Boiling Isles serves a similar function to scrying and act as its equivalent to information technology, as a means of communication and mass media. For example, crystal balls are used as video phones, TV sets, and computer monitors. Whether this magic is scrying itself or a spell similar to it, however, remains unclear.
