The Bat Queen's children are minor characters in The Owl House. They are small, identical-looking bats who are the children of the Bat Queen. They live with their mother in the forest of the Boiling Isles.

Appearance[]

Initially, the Bat Queen's children all look the same, having small oval-shaped bodies, purple wings, dark blue hair in a cowlick shape, and dark purple talons. They also have fangs.

In the epilogue to "Watching and Dreaming", the children have grown slightly, and are shown wearing unique outfits. One child sports long hair covering one eye, dyed silver at the ends, and wears a spiked black wristband. Another child gains sports a yellow mohawk with a flaming highlight, and wears neon green sunglasses. The final child wears a purple bucket hat over their head.

Personality[]

Being very young, the children don't have very developed personalities. Despite this, they are fully capable of wreaking havoc and purposefully attacking, sometimes at the command of their mother. They are shown to have quite short temperaments, and when babysat by Eda and King, the largest begins screaming loudly at slight provocation until it gets its way, before becoming riled again shortly after when provoked a second time, regurgitating the other two. The three children then cause chaos throughout the Owl House, breathing fire and spraying green liquid at the two, one pouring out Eda's potions and another having stolen a mace. The children were quickly subdued, however, by giving them apple slices and reading them a storybook. They seem to be loyal to their mother, attacking Gus and Willow at her command. They enjoy eating paper, this being what the Bat Queen feeds them before bedtime.

Background[]

The Bat Queen's children live with their mother in her forest, along with the many palisman she has taken in over the years.

One day, the Bat Queen is forced to leave her children in the care of Eda Clawthorne until the next morning, promising a monetary reward for her if she does so, which intrigues Eda and she agrees. Not wanting Luz to receive a cut of this reward, Eda sends Luz off to the library to return her overdue books, leaving herself and King to do the babysitting. However, the two quickly regret their decision when the baby starts screeching loudly and unceasingly. At this, they attempt to call upon Luz for help, but she hastily departs for the library to avoid the ensuing mayhem. Soon after, the baby flies out of its basket and into Eda's face, knocking her over.

The baby bat, now on the sofa, continues to scream for the time Luz is at the library, King and Eda having plugged their ears and hidden. Finally, Eda grabs the baby and holds it in her arms, causing it to finally stop screaming. She then rocks it gently, and it drifts off to sleep. Soon after, Luz returns from the library, comes over, and pokes it, causing it to suddenly regurgitate two smaller bats, which proceed to wreak havoc throughout the Owl House. The smallest bat breathes a stream of fire onto the couch, and Luz quickly excuses herself yet again. Eda and King agree to persist for the reward, before being forced to dodge a green liquid one of the bats sprays at them.

Later, Eda and King take refuge under the now upturned sofa as the three bats continue to wreak havoc, one wielding a mace and wearing Eda's shoes, one pouring out potions on the floor, and one trying to break through the couch barrier. Eventually, Eda decides to try cutting up an apple and reading the bats the Otabin storybook. Luz later returns to see Eda and King sleeping peacefully with the bats in their arms, having grown fond of them. It is at this moment that the Bat Queen arrives to pick up her children, who fly into her hair, without Eda or King noticing. After she gives Luz her payment and leaves, Eda and King are saddened when they learn that the babies have already left.

After Luz accidentally injures Owlbert and he flies into an unknown forest, she, Willow, and Gus follow him. Upon entering the forest, they come across the children, whom Luz quickly recognizes from the babysitting escapade. She tries to ask them where Owlbert is, but she quickly finds him. As part of the Bat Queen's imposed trials to regain Owlbert's trust, her third trial is to bathe the babies. After another trial is forced upon Luz, fighting the Bat Queen herself. Gus tries to help her, but the babies attack him and Willow. After the trio and Owlbert finally leave the forest, the babies stop attacking Gus, leaving him covered in sticky saliva. At the end of the day, the Bat Queen puts her children to bed. She appears to be ready to read them a storybook, but she instead tears out the pages and feeds them to her children, telling them to feed, grow wise, and avoid papercuts.

Four years following the defeat of Emperor Belos, the children are seen being cared for by Gwendolyn Clawthorne, while in the company of their mother. They and their mother are last seen attending Luz's belated quinceañera, with two of them holding up a dress for the occasion.
